Summer Top Pattern

The eyelet pattern forms a diamond design.
Cotton Top is 100% natural fiber with a lovely crunchy knitted texture.

50 gram balls (126 yards per ball).
All sizes require 5 balls of Cotton Top, numbers 3 and 6 standard knitting needles and 6 buttons.

Directions are for bust measurement 32 with changes for 34, 36 and 38 in parentheses.  The finished bust measurements will be 34 ¾   (37,  38 ¾,  41).

Gauge: In stockinette:
20 sts equal 4 inches 29 rows equal 4 inches
TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.

PANEL PATTERN: Worked over 8
sts.
Row 1: (Right Side) K 3, yo, sl 1, k 1, psso, k 3.

Row 2 AND EVERY EVEN ROW: P

Row 3: K 1, k 2 tog, yo, k 1, yo, sl 1, k 1, psso, k 2.

Row 5: K 2 tog, yo, k 3, yo, sl 1, k 1, psso, k 1.

Row 7: K 2, yo, sl 1 as if to k, k 2 tog,
psso, yo, k 3.

Row 8: Repeat Row 2.

Repeat Rows 1 through 8 for panel pattern.

Back: With smaller needles, cast on 73 (77, 81, 87) sts.  Work ribbing as follows:

Row 1: (Right Side) K 1, *p 1, k 1, repeat from * across.

Row 2: P 1, *k 1, p 1, repeat from * across.

Repeat Rows 1 and 2 for 2 ¾ inches, end Row 1.

Note: Work inc by picking up horizontal strand lying before next st and k into back of it.

Next Row: Rib 5 (6, 2, 5), inc one St, [rib 7 (6, 7, 7), inc one St] 9 (11, 11, 11) times, rib to end - 83 (89, 93, 99) sts. 

Change to larger needles and pattern as follows:

Row 1: (Right Side) K 6 (1, 3, 6), pat-tern Row 1 nine (11, 11, 11) times, k 5 (0, 2, 5).

Row 2 AND EVERY EVEN ROW: P

Rows 3 through 8: Repeat Rows 1 and 2, working appropriate rows of pattern.

Row 9: K 2 (5, 7, 2), pattern Row 1 ten (10, 10, 12) times, k 1 (4, 6, 1).

Row 10: P.

Rows 11 through 16: Repeat Rows 9 and 10, working appropriate rows of pattern.

Repeat Rows 1 through 16 until 13 inches from beginning or desired length to underarm, end p row.

Shape Armholes: Keeping continuity of pattern, bind off 3 sts at beginning of next 2 rows.  Dec one St at each end of next 3 (5, 5, 5) rows, then next 3 (3, 4, 5) right side rows - 65 (67, 69, 73) sts.  Work even until 8 ¼ (8 ½, 9, 9 ½) inches above bind-off, end p row.
Shape Shoulders: Bind off 3 (3, 3, 4) sts at beginning of next 2 rows, 3 (4, 4, 4) sts at beginning of next 2 rows, then 4 sts at beginning of next 6 rows - 29 (29, 31, 33) sts.  Bind off.

Left Front: With smaller needles, cast on 37 (39, 41, 43) sts.  Work ribbing same as back for 2 ¾ inches, inc 5 (6, 6, 7) sts evenly on last row, end Row 2 - 42 (45, 47, 50) sts.  Change to larger needles and pattern as follows:

Row 1: (Right Side) K 6 (1, 3, 6), pattern Row 1 four (5, 5, 5) times, k 4.

Row 2: AND EVERY EVEN ROW: P.

Rows 3: through 8: Repeat Rows 1  and 2, working appropriate rows of pattern.

Row 9: K 2 (5, 7, 2), pattern Row 1 five (5, 5, 6) times.

Row 10: P

Rows 11: through 16: Repeat Rows 9 and 10, working appropriate rows of pattern.

Repeat Rows 1 through 16 until front measures same as back to beginning armhole shaping, end p row.

Shape Armhole and Front Slope: Keeping continuity of pattern, bind off 3 sts, work to last 2 sts, k 2 tog.  P 1 row.  Dec one St at armhole edge on next 3 (5, 5, 5) rows, then next 3 (3, 4, 5)
right side rows AND AT THE SAME TIME dec one St at neck edge on 3rd row, then every 4 th row until 30 (30, 31, 32) sts remain.  Dec one St at neck edge only every 4th row until 18 (19, 19, 20) sts remain.  Work even until front measures same as back to beginning shoulder shaping, end p row.

Shape Shoulder: Bind off 3 (3, 3, 4) sts at beginning of next row, then 3 (4, 4, 4) sts at beginning of next right side row, then 4 sts at beginning of next 2 right side rows - 4 sts.  P 1 row.  Bind off.

Right Front: Work same as left front until change to larger needles after the ribbing.
Row 1: (Right Side) K 5, pattern Row
1 four (5, 5, 5) times, k 5 (0, 2, 5).

Row 2: P.

Rows 3 through 8: Repeat Rows 1 and 2, working appropriate rows of pattern.

Row 9: K 1, pattern Row 1 five (5, 5, 6) times, k 1 (4, 6, 1).

Row 10: P.

Rows 11 through 16: Repeat Rows 9  and 10, working appropriate rows of pattern.

Complete to correspond to left front, reversing shaping.

Finishing: Buttonhole Band: Sew shoulder seams.  Mark positions for 6 buttonholes along right front, the first ¾ inch above lower edge, the last at beginning of front slope and 4 more evenly spaced between.  With smaller needles, cast on 9 sts.  

Work ribbing as follows:
Row 1: (Right Side) K 2, (p 1, k 1) 3 times, k 1.

Row 2: K 1, (p 1, k 1) 4 times.

Repeat Rows 1 and 2 working button-holes at markers as follows:
Buttonhole Row: (Right Side) Rib 4, bind off 2 sts, rib to end.

Next Row: Rib to bind-off, turn, cast on 2 sts, turn, rib to end.

Work until band fits up right front and around to center back.  Sew in place.  Bind off.

Button Band: Work same as button-hole band, omitting buttonholes, sew along left front.  Sew bands at center back.  Sew on buttons.
Armhole Bands: With right side facing and smaller needles, pick up 81 (87, 89, 95) sts along each armhole.  Work 9 rows ribbing same as back, beginning Row 2. Bind off in ribbing.  Sew side and arm band seams.
